What is the distinction between a Vietnam Work Visa and a Vietnam Business Visa?

Many foreigners mistakenly believe that a business visa and a work visa for Vietnam are the same things. They are, however, diametrically opposed. A work visa in Vietnam is not the same as a business visa.

While those who come to work with Vietnam-based enterprises are granted a business visa (DN visa), those who come to work for a Vietnam-based company or office are granted a work visa (LD visa).

The DN visa is applied for online or directly at the Vietnam embassy/consulate in the foreign country by the foreigner, whereas the work visa is applied for in Vietnam by the company for which the foreigner works and then stamped in the embassy in the foreign country by the foreigner
